Robot industry is receiving attention as a star industry which will be the potential future growth engine of Korea. The market size is expected to be over 100 trillion won. Currently national projects to develop robot industry are being actively proceeded, and many are becoming more and more interested in the business. Accordingly with the increase of interest, Pohang Institute of Intelligent Robotics has been established.

Pohang Institute of Intelligent Robotics will take the leading role to develop competence in domestic/international intelligence robot technology and improve robot technology of SMEs in Daegu, Gyeongbuk region. Moreover, it will promote interaction among industry, academia and research institutes and boost the development of robot related new technology.

In addition, it has an optimal research infrastructure such as POSTECH, Kyungpook National University, Kumoh National Institute of Technology, RIST, POSTECH Biotech Center and large industrial complexes in Daegu, Gumi, and Pohang region. Through this institute, robot industry will become the representative business in Gyeongbuk.
